brazilian Jiu-jitsu for kids in Chillicothe
What is Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art focused on ground fighting and submissions. It was developed in Brazil in the early 20th century by the Gracie family, and is now a popular form of martial arts worldwide, especially for children.
BJJ emphasizes the use of leverage and technique to control and submit an opponent, rather than striking techniques. Our youth classes include practicing techniques with a partner, drilling, and age-appropriate games. The program fosters physical fitness, increased confidence, self-discipline, focus, and fun.
Is it safe?
Axiom’s Youth Jiu-Jitsu Program is specifically tailored to children and young teenagers. It involves age-appropriate techniques and training methods that are designed to be safe and beneficial for kids.
Jiu-jitsu is safe for children when taught by our qualified instructors, who are trained in working with kids. We focus on proper technique to reduce the risk of injury.
What are the benefits of BJJ for youth?
A wide range of physical, mental, and emotional benefits of BJJ can help young people develop in various aspects of their lives.
BJJ training is a full-body workout that requires a lot of physical exertion, which can lead to increased strength, flexibility, and endurance. This can be especially beneficial for children who lack physical activity in their daily lives.
Training in jiu-jitsu also helps boost confidence and self-defense skills. It teaches kids how to handle themselves in difficult situations and gives them the ability to defend themselves if needed. This can have a positive impact on kids’ emotional well-being and help them to feel more secure and self-assured.
It can also improve academic focus. BJJ requires discipline, focus under pressure, and concentration, which can transfer over to their academic work in school, helping them stay focused and on task. Additionally, it fosters leadership skills, as training develops a higher tolerance for discomfort and doing hard things. Youths often become willing to do things they didn’t before from their newfound sense of confidence and resilience.
Finally, off the mat, the discipline, focus, and respect that BJJ teaches can also help to improve their behavior in school and in their personal lives.
Beyond the physicality of Jiu-jitsu is the quiet building of integrity, self-confidence, leadership, and character.
